Genesis HealthCare Center For Aging Research And Education Launched At University Of The Sciences

August 04, 2017

To meet the growing need for training and resources that respond to the nation's aging population, University of the Sciences and Genesis HealthCare Corporation are launching The Genesis Healthcare Center for Aging Research and Education. The new center will be housed within USciences' Samson College of Health Sciences and create a focused emphasis on the elderly.

"The combined resources and expertise of USciences and Genesis HealthCare present endless possibilities for education, research, and training," said Dr. Paula Kramer, chair of USciences' Occupational Therapy Department and center director. "Not only will our students benefit from this concentration of resources but so will the elderly population who needs the best care from the best trained practitioners."

The Genesis Healthcare Center for Aging Research and Education will focus on student recruitment, education, and research. At USciences, the departments of occupational therapy and physical therapy along with the physicians assistant and exercise science and wellness management programs will work together on joint programming. Students will be exposed to community programs that make an immediate impact in the community, attend learning seminars presented by Genesis staff, and have access to research and data.

"I am personally very excited about the newly formed partnership between Genesis HealthCare Corporation and the University of the Sciences," said Garry Pezzano, vice president of clinical operations at Genesis Rehab and Respiratory Health Services. "This positions us very well to increase the awareness and access of rehabilitation services for older adults, promote pride in practice for our clinicians working in post-acute care settings, and enlist the support of educators to inspire therapy students to consider post acute rehabilitation. Together we will touch many lives."

To inaugurate the partnership, The Genesis Healthcare Center for Aging Research and Education is sponsoring a learning seminar series that kicks off on January 27 at 5:30 p.m. in USciences' AstraZeneca Auditorium with a talk titled "Health Care for Older Adults: Dispelling Myths and Embracing Evidence" and presented by Jennifer Sidelinker, PT, GCS, a clinical manager at Genesis HealthCare.
