CMV Disease In Solid Organ Transplant Recipients: A Proactive Approach To Prevention
October 09, 2017
Cytomegalovirus (CMV)
infection is the most common opportunistic viral infection encountered
following solid organ transplant (SOT) and a significant cause of morbidity
and mortality in recipients of SOT. Prevention of CMV is complicated by
several factors, including a lack of consensus regarding the most
appropriate preventive methods and the limitations of existing antiviral
agents because of toxicity profiles and drug resistance. For these reasons,
it is crucial that healthcare professionals working with this population
understand strategies for prevention and treatment of CMV infection after
SOT.
To address the need for current education on CMV, Robert Michael
Educational Institute LLC (RMEI) and Postgraduate Institute for Medicine
(PIM) are jointly sponsoring a continuing education self-study monograph
titled CMV Disease in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients: A Proactive
Approach to Prevention. The content of this monograph is derived from the
proceedings of a satellite symposium held during the 2008 American
Transplant Congress (ATC). This monograph is supported by an educational
grant from ViroPharma Incorporated. It is accredited for physicians,
pharmacists, and registered nurses.
Faculty for the monograph are infectious diseases experts Raymund R.
Razonable, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College
of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota and Sunwen Chou, MD, Professor of
Medicine at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.
Healthcare professionals can access this self-study monograph by
visiting RMEI/CMV012.
